Table Runners

A runner is the piece that pulls a long table together, and the decision is whether it leads or follows. A Montaigne Pearl or Madison Avenue runner is the centerpiece, so keep the placemats plain under it; the Coordinating runners are built for the opposite case, sitting beneath mats that already sparkle without competing. A runner also carries a bare table between meals, which placemats cannot do.
Leave room at each end rather than letting it hang, and match the width to your placemats. On a round table, a tray does the job a runner cannot.
