The Perfect Reading Nook

The Perfect Reading Nook

Hello, my lovely readers! Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite things in the world: reading nooks. There's nothing quite like curling up with a good book in a space perfectly curated to your tastes.

First things first, let's talk about location. When it comes to creating a reading nook, location is everything. You want to choose a spot in your home that's quiet, comfortable, and away from any distractions. Ideally, you want a space that's well-lit, but not too bright. A corner of your bedroom or living room is a great place to start, but don't be afraid to get creative. Maybe there's a little nook under the stairs or a window seat that's just begging to be turned into a reading spot.

Once you've found the perfect location, it's time to start thinking about the furniture. A comfortable oversized chair or chaise lounge is a must-have for any reading nook. Look for something that's soft and plush, but also supportive. A footstool or ottoman is also a great addition, as it allows you to prop up your feet and get even more comfortable. Having a side table or shelving to set your drinks and snacks, and the book if you aren’t finished with it yet, is essential.

A cozy reading nook should feel warm and inviting, so think about adding some soft blankets and throw pillows. Faux fur or chunky knit blankets are perfect for snuggling up with on a chilly day. And don't be afraid to mix and match different textures and patterns when it comes to your pillows. Soft, luxe velvet is a favorite of mine and I like to have a few pillows in different sizes to let me move support where I need it for those long rainy days. The more, the merrier! Having a basket for extra blankets or unused pillows can help contain the clutter.

Lighting is also an important factor to consider. You want to have enough light to read comfortably, but not so much that it's harsh or distracting. Try using warm lighting tones in that space to help keep your eyes from straining. A table lamp or floor lamp is a great option, as it allows you to adjust the brightness to your liking.  If you're feeling extra fancy, you could even install a dimmer switch to really set the mood.

Now, let's talk about the little details that can take your reading nook from ordinary to extraordinary. Make sure you have a few coasters for your side table, this not only protects the top of the table but makes sure any condensation is contained and your book doesn’t accidentally get set in it. You could also add some artwork, personal pictures, or a framed quote that inspires you to the walls or shelves. And don't forget about the scent! A candle or diffuser with your favorite scent can really help set the mood and make your reading nook feel even more cozy.

Remember, my lovely readers, the key is to make it your own and to create a space that feels warm, inviting, and inspiring. The beauty of a reading nook is that it's your own little world, and you can make it whatever you want it to be. Happy reading!
